Peace

If you are not feeling peaceful today, you are not alone. So many people I talk with are anxious, grieving, angry, exhausted, or in pain. So, I hope you’ll let me dip into my emergency reserve tank inside myself and offer something to you…

Peace be with you.

That’s my prayer for you today. A deep peace. A profound peace. A peace that is beyond circumstance or situation. A peace that transcends the smallness of the chaos surrounding us.

Peace be with you.

In Muslim communities, you’ll often hear the traditional greeting: “As-salaamu alaykum” (“peace be upon you”). If someone says that to you, the common response is “Wa alaykum as-salaam” (“and upon you be peace”).

That sounds a lot like what happens when folks in the churches I often attend “pass the peace.” They turn to one another and say, “Peace be with you.” / “And also with you.”

Peace is shared. Peace is abundant. Even when I don’t feel peaceful myself… I have peace to offer when others need it. And so do you.

In the midst of the holiday shopping rush, staring wide-eyed at wild news stories, constant social media buzzes, your own anxieties about this season of our life rattling around inside, seeing food insecurity and suffering all around us, worrying about people feeling unsafe in their own communities, and so much more…

I believe we can share peace with each other. We have it in deep wells within us. Sometimes accessing our own peace for our own use can feel nearly impossible—but we have this wondrous human ability to dip into the deep spiritual well of peace in our souls to share it with others.

Peace is shared. Between us.

Peace be with you.

How can I pray for peace in your life and in your soul today?

Who can you share a cup full of peace with today?
